An Open Letter From Racal Decca RFC
Dear Rugby Clubs of Surrey and surrounding areas,
Many of you know us, many of you have played against, some have played for us.
Our season so far has been a struggle and given the number of games that we have had to cancel and have had cancelled on us, we Racal Decca RFC in association with Fill Your Boots Rugby are proposing a round robin of fixtures where we can combine with other teams/clubs to, hopefully, ensure a full XV’s game can go ahead.
We have identified the following dates to bring together clubs that are suffering the same fate as us as well as targeting the 2nd & 3rd sides of larger clubs, where some players may have ascending up your ranks and getting game time but others that want to play more social rugby have not and are not playing.
2nd December 2023 – 16th December 2023 – 6th January 2024 – 10th February 2024
We want you to get these dates in your club’s fixture lists but rather than having to find a full team you send whatever numbers you have however small.
For those like us, when there is a lack of numbers even to play under Game On rules willing players are missing out on game time and inevitably some of these players will be lost to senior rugby for good.
Should we be able to get 4 clubs/teams signed up and agreed, each will be the home team and the away for a fixture, with the other two acting as support, for example:
2nd December 2023 A (C) v B (D)
16th December 2023 C (D) v A (B)
6th January 2024 B (C) v D (A)
10th February 2024 D (B) v C (A)
If we get more clubs/teams involved, we can continue this on for more weekend this season so that everyone gets a home game, we appreciate that some of you have a clubhouse & bar to manage too.
And even if you aren’t part of 4 particpating clubs, you will be more than welcome to come and join in and get some game time too!
To keep our clubs/teams going, to keep social rugby alive we need to do things differently.
This may not be the long-term answer, but this will get us playing this season.
Will you join us?
Yours faithfully,
