Firm launches “Stag Hunt” to try and sponsor dozens of Rugby clubs

It is one of Britain’s most common rugby team names – now being called ‘The Stags’ could literally pay off.

That’s because a rugby-loving stag party organiser has vowed to sponsor ANY side with that name.

Last Night of Freedom is one Britain’s biggest stag and hen party organisers, having sent thousands of party-mad groups across Europe during the past four decades.

It also prints the t-shirts for those trips – but now it will ‘try’ to get its name on the front of rugby tops up and down Britain before the start of next season.

“Our office is rugby mad, we have several staff who play at the weekends, so when we realised just how many teams were named The Stags it felt like sponsorship would be a natural fit,” said Matt Mavir, managing director of The Gateshead-based firm.

There are roughly 1,900 rugby union sides across Britain. Of those, the company estimates that somewhere between five to ten percent are named The Stags.

“We realise that could be quite an investment to sponsor so many, but it would be our pleasure to ‘prop’ some teams up with a bit of cash and help them out, especially when everyone is feeling the pinch a bit,” added Matt.

“Plus, we make it our business every day to help stags, so this is just an evolution of what Last Night of Freedom does.”

Previously, Last Night of Freedom has generously pumped cash into local sports by sponsoring Gateshead FC as well as former Newcastle Falcons star Andy Saull.

Now the firm has launched a ‘stag hunt’ to try and track down teams at a grassroots level to benefit from the firm’s latest investment in the sport.

The firm will sponsor up to 20 senior sides and are offering as much as £250 for a shirt deal. However Matt laughed: “Obviously a side can’t just change their team name, as crafty as that would be – we are only hunting original stags!

“However we know from our own involvement in the sport that this is the time many sides are working around-the-clock to try and secure sponsorship deals so – for any original Stags –  they just need to make contact.” For more information, including full T&Cs, visit Last Night of Freedom’s website here.
