TRYIT Rugby: Growing Grassroots Rugby in Lancashire

Joshua Jones, the Head Coach of TRYIT rugby, established the academy to address the lack of coaching in Lancashire schools, both primary and secondary. He initiated the school programs with Leigh RUFC, his own club, and noticed an increase in the number of children interested in learning rugby. The partnership with Lancashire RFU grew from there, and TRYIT Rugby’s mission to cultivate grassroots rugby in and around Lancashire for every rugby club was established. TRYIT is proud to be part of the cause of introducing new players to the sport, both boys and girls.

TRYIT Rugby utilizes rugby camps and school programs to assist rugby clubs in recruiting new players, as well as providing opportunities for developing players on the field and advancing new coaches on their coaching pathway. The rugby camps are broken down into three categories: fundamental skills, game development, and team social skills.

TRYIT Rugby is headquartered in the North West, specifically in partnership with the College of Rugby based out of Sedgley RUFC, with the goal of connecting both organizations’ ideas to develop rugby in the community. The partnership aims to foster the ethics and values of rugby while also promoting education as the best practice for learning and practical application.

TRYIT Rugby is involved with over 20 rugby clubs in Lancashire, including Orrell RUFC, Aspull RFU, and Southport RUFC, among others. TRYIT Rugby’s goal is to collaborate with every rugby club in Lancashire to help develop their mini and junior programs.
