URC Celebrates “Grassroots to Greatness” With Origin Rounds
During Rounds 10 and 11, the BKT United Rugby Championship (URC) warmly invites teams, players, and fans to join in celebrating the vibrant communities and individuals who played pivotal roles in launching the careers of numerous rugby players and coaches.
With over 700 players gracing the BKT URC stage each season, the collaborative efforts of parents, coaches, and more than 550 clubs spanning 17 countries have paved the way for these athletes to ascend to the highest echelons of the sport.
Under the theme Grassroots To Greatness, the BKT URC aims to cast a spotlight on the distinct identities of clubs, schools, and communities that have admirably provided children with the opportunity to embrace rugby and have guided the select few talented enough to attain elite status.
For Rounds 10 and 11, the BKT URC will embrace Origin Round branding across its digital channels. Inside the stadiums, LED boards will feature players’ names alongside their first school or club affiliations, while broadcasters will emphasize the origin points of various players. Fans are encouraged to actively participate by donning school and club jerseys or socks during the games.
Numerous clubs are already exploring creative and personalized ways to honor their communities and the origin points of their players. The BKT URC is thrilled about this groundbreaking grassroots-based activation, marking a significant milestone in the league’s history.
Martin Anayi, CEO of the United Rugby Championship, expressed enthusiasm about this latest initiative, stating, “Since the inception of the United Rugby Championship, our focus has been on purpose-driven initiatives that celebrate the positive aspects of our league and all those involved. The Origin Round is a most welcome addition, as it provides an opportunity to acknowledge the tireless efforts of parents, family members, coaches, and communities at grassroots levels worldwide. Their dedication helps young children realize their dreams of donning a jersey as a professional rugby player.”
Anayi continued, “This is a chance to honor not only those who have made it to the BKT URC pitches but also those who, though not reaching this stage, have developed a deep love for our sport. So, if you’re attending, wear your club or school colors and join us in celebrating everyone who contributes to grassroots rugby globally, fostering the growth of the next generation of players.”
